Obesity might induce infertility in off-spring

Why do we help at Copenhagen Fertility Center with weight loss?

It is well known that being overweight in a woman who wants to get pregnant can be a problem. Being overweight is harmful to the individual woman and can create problems with getting pregnant and problems in pregnancy. That is why we help all overweight people lose weight at Copenhagen Fertility Center. We do not have a fixed BMI target to achieve before embarking on fertility treatment. What is important is to look at the individual and how much that person can improve their BMI. Even a small change can have a big effect on fertility. Nor is it our job at the clinic to exclude individual people from having a child, only based on their BMI. But there is also another reason it now turns out that being overweight is a problem in pregnancy.

A unique (yes it has never been shown before) Danish scientific article shows in a large study that boy babies born to an obese mother have a worse fertility rate than children born to normal weighty mothers. This is yet another reason to try to gain her weight just a little down before a pregnancy.
