Micro insemination (ICSI)

Micro insemination is often abbreviated to ICSI, which means Intra Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection.

ICSI follows the same principles as in vitro fertilisation (IVF). At ICSI one single sperm cell is injected directly into the woman’s egg, this is performed under a special microscope. The process of fertilisation is what differentiate micro insemination from the regular IVF treatment.
Micro insemination is only performed in those cases where the man has a very reduced sperm cell quality and therefore only very few sperm cells are suited for fertilisation of the egg.
