Crash IVF
During IVF or ICSI treatment, some women experience that although they receive a high dosis of FSH, they do not produce a sufficient number of eggs for fertilisation. These women are classified as low responders. A subgroup of these women are characterized by short menstrual cycles (less than 27 days) and normal FSH and LH in the blood. They are not in premenopause.
These women are characterized by selecting a dominant follicle already before menstruation. Therefore we utilize the antagonist GnRH antagonist Ganirelix, 7 days before expected menstruation. This induces a menstruation early and allows us to start FSH stimulation earlier. Therefore more and better oocytes will be preserved for IVF.
The treatment schedule is as follows:
- When the women start menstruating she is scheduled for the first visit 21 days later.
- Here she gets the Ganirelix
- On her second day of menstruation we start FSH stimulation
- When the follicles are14 mm in diameter, an antagonist is again given parallel to the FSH stimlaton for some more days.
- The ovulation induction is given when the follicles are17 mm in diameter
