Investigation of the man
Before fertility treatment the course for infertility has to be identified
Concerning the man an initial sperm sample test is performed to identify any serious problems. On the basis of these findings eventual other tests can be taken.
Sperm analysis
The sperm sample is analysed in our own laboratory. This will take a couple of hours and you will then have the result.
The sperm sample is viewed in a light microscope to assess the following:
- sperm morphology
- motility
- number of living and dead sperm
- identifying any other cells
The normal parameters used for accessing a sperm sample (WHO Criteria):
- More than 2 milliliter semen
- More than 15 mill spermatozoa/ml
- At least 50% of the sperm cells must move and be living
- At least 30% of the sperm cells must look normal
After processed in the laboratory the sperm sample is categorized as:
- Very reduced sperm quality
- Some what reduced sperm quality
- Normal sperm quality
Chromosome analysis and ultrasound examination
If the sperm quality proves to be very bad, a micro insemination could be the right treatment for you.
Prior to the micro insemination we might perform a chromosome analysis of the man and an ultrasound examination of the testicles.
